Why we do it

A wide range of information is being collected from each Solar City. This includes, but is not limited to, detailed data from interval meters about energy consumption, the different methods being trialled through energy efficiency measures (such as the number of inefficient light bulbs that are replaced with compact fluorescent light bulbs) and data about the up-take, production and use of solar technology.

The data being collected will be used to inform future energy efficiency policy. A wide variety of energy efficiency measures and solar technologies are being implemented across the seven Solar Cities, and the collected data will allow us to assess the effectiveness of these trials in real world situations.

Non-renewable energy is also becoming more expensive, both on the hip-pocket and to the planet.  We need to think about different energy solutions.  We need to think locally, around the house and the office, about turning off the switch, avoiding power hungry appliances and making simple changes to our homes and sourcing our power from fuels which don’t cause harmful emissions during generation.  The Central Victoria Solar City project aims to assist Central Victorians with these choices.
